Chalks Airways Airport
Seaplane Terminal and Restaurant
Watson Island, Florida
Spring 2010
The concept of the airport is to emphasize its role as a meeting place and a place that makes connections (the connection between people from different cities, and the connection between land, air and water).
The direction I took was to incorporate an overall radial motif to the site plan that is subtle but also defines the building as the central focal point where all things come together.
Because of its location on Watson Island that overlooks downtown Miami, a majority of the exterior walls are glass to offer the great views to the passengers and restaurant diners and to create transparency between the departure area and the take off lounge. From a distance the airport will look like a sleek and reflective form reflecting the sky and water.
