Kennedy Plaza Pavilions

Public Hall and Meeting Place
Providence, Rhode Island
Fall 2009

A light and permeable system of structures for all types of community activities, including concerts, markets, exhibitions and banquets. Located in a very historically prominent site in Providence, they are meant to maintain the existing urban relationships, while acting as a new landmark for this plaza and park complex.

Since the site was formerly an open plaza, a division of the project into four separate buildings is used to keep the same sense of free circulation and the modest height is meant to respect the historic connection between the City Hall on the west and the Courthouse on the east. The south side is faced with stone-clad shops to face the wall of skyscrapers across the street, while the large multipurpose spaces front the north side offering views to the park through its elegant glass walls.
